1) Can I swim in my jewelry?
Now for everyones least favourite answer: It depends:)
●Swimming in the ocean or lakes is totally fine for pieces that are made entirely of silver, gold or gold-fill. Meaning: pieces that do not contain pearls or gemstones.
●If your jewellery has vulnerable gems like pearls, opals or turquoise, we suggest you take it off to swim.
●Do not swim in chlorinated pools or hot-tubs with your jewellery: chlorine is not a friend to your jewellery. It can discolour your metals and destroy some gemstones.
●After swimming, you should rinse off your jewellery in clean water and dry on a soft towel to keep it nice and shiny.
2) Can I hike & get sweaty in my jewelry?
Yes, you bet!
Just make sure to give your jewellery a quick clean before putting it away as sweat can accelerate the tarnishing process.
For most pieces this will simply involve a quick rinse in warm water with mild dish detergent followed by a thorough drying.

For jewellery that is entirely made of silver or gold (ie. no gemstones or pearls) it's probably okay as long as you make sure to rinse it off well in warm water with mild dish detergent and then dry them after wear.
For jewellery that contains gemstones, sunscreen is not a friend. Especially vulnerable gems like pearls, opals and turquoise. These gems are porous and can absorb chemicals that can damage them irreparably.
Use the "Last on, First Off" rule of jewellery wear and put your sunscreen on first and your jewellery on last.
5) Is it okay to wear my jewelry in the sun?
Again, it depends.
●If your jewellery is made entirely of silver, gold or gold-fill, it's no problem at all.
●If your jewellery contains gemstones this could be a problem if you are going to be in prolonged contact with the UV rays from sunlight.
●UV rays can be damaging to certain gemstones and can cause their colour to fade. As always, the more vulnerable gems like pearls, opals and turquoise should be kept away from lengthy exposure to the sun.
●Additionally, gems like topaz, gems in the Beryl family like aquamarine and morganite and gems from the Quartz family like amethyst, citrine and rose quartz can all lose their vibrant colours if exposed to the sun for too long.
